LRT Green Line Project

Roua Chahin, Project Controls Lead – Green Line Project, City of Calgary

Presentation Topic:

Stage 1 of the Green Line LRT is the largest public infrastructure investment ever made in Calgary, and includes 20 km of track, 14 stations and will serve 60-65,000 trips per day. It will connect over 20 communities with shops, jobs, services, recreation centres, and cultural destinations, providing citizens with more options to get around the city, and live sustainably. Delivering a capital project of this size and scope in the public sector comes with a unique set of requirements and challenges. Project Controllers work in the background, but play a critical role in ensuring the project is delivered successfully. Join us to learn more about the role of project controls in the planning and implementation of the Green Line.

Presenters Bio:

Roua is a Project Control Analyst working with the City of Calgary’s Green Line business unit.  She has 13 years of experience in project cost control and planning in energy and infrastructure industries.  Roua has led teams and managed cost and schedule associated with mega projects specifically in the Middle East and CIS countries.  She joined the City of Calgary one and half years ago, bringing extensive experience that included working with teams of diverse cultures, handling tight schedule and fast paced projects in Dubai, one of the fastest developing cities in the world.  She began her career as a process engineer, but transitioned into a project management team as her passion for seeing the bigger picture grew.  This allowed her to focus on planning and project cost control.  Her experience includes cost engineering, contract management, lump sum estimating, and scheduling.  Roua holds a bachelor degree in chemical engineering, and is a certified project management professional.
